Ya Kun Moments
"The Toast that Binds…Kinship, Friendship, Partnership.”
— Ya Kun Kaya Toast
Named after the legendary Singapore coffee stall franchise, Ya Kun Kaya Toast, this column chronicles the bustling interchange of lives and destinies intertwining over ‘kopi’ and ‘kaya toast’ at Ya Kun. Ya Kun embodies simplicity with an authentic Singaporean flavor. Ya Kun Moments houses some of The Gardener’s most treasured tales. Ya Kun and The Gardener first met at one of Singapore’s chic shopping centers. A warm and unassuming place amidst the hundreds of upscale eateries in Singapore’s malls, The Gardener’s soul was drawn to Ya Kun that, over decades, continues to serve “the toast that binds.” The first serve, titled “Kurang Kurang Manis (Less Less Sweet),” sets the scene. It recounts how The Gardener stumbled upon Ya Kun and, despite being shy to approach, quickly became part of the Ya Kun family, feeling she belonged. The best stories in life are told at Ya Kun, where they develop, play out and are remembered. Come and see for yourself.

"Don't be afraid of life. Embrace the changes it brings light-heartedly. Remain curious. Remember this space between two book-ends — birth and death — is finite. Trust it is meant for you to learn, grow, connect, support, and enjoy."

A dog's mission is to help their human become a better person by teaching them patience, gratitude, and empathy. Ask yourself, "Am I cooperating?"
